Installing Adobe CS 2 Suite
I started the GoLive CS 2 review with the 30 day trial version while waiting for my full version to arrive. It got here today June 10th, 2005.
It came as a set of 6 CDs, I wish there had been a DVD option but that's a minor issue. I was hoping to be able to install on top of the trial version of GoLive CS and Acrobat 7 that I had installed on my tablet.
That was not to be. On the first attempt as soon as the installer noticed I had "a prior version of Acrobat" installed I was advised to remove it or omit the Acrobat install from the Suite install. So I allowed the Suite Installer to remove it. That required a reboot.
Next attempt, stalled when it hit the trial of GoLive CS 2. This time it said it would install everything EXCEPT GoLive CS 2 unless I removed it but did not offer to remove it. So I cancelled the install and went to Add/Remove programs. This time I removed all the Adobe products that were currently installed just so I wouldn't have to do repeat the process a third time.
I started the install and during the course of the install I was prompted at least 4 times per CD to allow the install program access to the internet or to act as a server by my firewall software. After all 4 cds had been installed the registration screen popped up. So I went ahead and registered, after all it isn't like I'm going to be reselling this software on eBay or something. :-)
After registering I was presented with a dialog box that had "check for updates" pre-checked. That was also okay with me. On the next screen "Automatic Updates" with "automatically install" was also checked. I changed that. I don't like programs installing updates without my approving it. Then I went ahead and checked for updates. To my surprise there were two. The first was to the Adobe Bridge application and the second to InDesign. I downloaded and went to install the updates. The Bridge update was installed quickly and the installer moved on to the "Central European Language Update". After over half an hour of watching the update bar bounce back and forth I cancelled it. After all I don't use Central European Languages and 30 minutes was long enough to watch and update bar.
Then I browsed around the two "Resources and Extras" CDs and discovered that there is what appears to be a very comprehensive manual on GoLive CS 2. At 728 pages it should be able to answer any question you could come up with. I skimmed through the first couple of dozen pages and saw references to 'tutorials' under the GoLive help menu so I'm off to check those out now.
