GoLive CS 2 Review

First Steps

I downloaded and installed the trial version of Adobe GoLive CS 2 The is the first one I've looked at since GoLive 6.

One of the very first things I noticed is how slow it is to launch. Much slower than either Dreamweaver MX or FrontPage 2003. The second is that unlike both of those programs there is no introduction or beginner tutorial. I don't know if it is because this is the 30 day trial version or if there is a problem with my download but the Help file does not seem to be available either by using F1 or by using the Help menu. Nothing happens when I click there.

If you are not a fan of the Adobe interface and it myriad number of floating panels you will not be happy with the GoLive interface. When Macromedia stopped using the floating interface and moved to the nice integrated application option in MX I was thrilled. To me all this floating panels are a major step back in usability. The lack of a tutorial to help with the interface and missing help files create a serious usability problem.

Fortunately, I have used enough Adobe products to have a clue but otherwise the user would be in serious trouble since the interface is not intuitive.

In an attempt to become productive I looked at the Adobe site for tutorials on GoLive CS 2. While there are some tutorials there they are limited to specific features and are not aimed at the first time user. Which took me back to the program where I launched the "New" dialog box from the File menu. Note that the original of the image below is 951px wide and I was not able to resize it to a smaller window size which means if you have an 800x600 monitor resolution you may be in trouble.
